India is expected to witness exponential growth in the need for Organ & Tissue Transplantation in the near future. While there is an increased interest in various facets of the specialty, one fact is undeniable…… There is an acute shortage of trained Transplant Surgeons. To address this need, the Indian Society of Transplant Surgeons has been created.

There is no platform, so far, where the specific requirements of creating, nurturing and presenting a body of trained surgeons, both Retrieval and Transplant is being addressed.

The main aims of the Indian Society of Transplant Surgeons are:

  • The harnessing of already existing surgeons to enter at various levels of Transplant Surgery.
  • The focused training of surgeons from retrieval to transplant surgeons, while continuing with their primary specialties.
  • Enabling these Transplant Trained Surgeons with meaningful employment at various SOTTO’s, University/ Medical Colleges and Govt./ Non Govt. Transplant Centres.
  • Providing a platform where interaction is offered for surgeons to exchange their particular experiences at mentor / trainee and other levels.
  • Keeping abreast with ever-changing developments in the world.
  • Helping provide Govt. agencies with the changing needs of the surgical world and help formulate policy.
  • Helping surgeons become familiar with various non-surgical developments in the Transplant scenario.

One of the main objectives of this Inaugural Conference is to discuss ways and means of attracting maximum participation of Transplant Surgeons of various organs/ specialties to this Indian Society of Transplant Surgeons. The other is to help create a ‘Grid’ between the various SOTTO’s / Medical Colleges and the Trauma Centres where Surgeons can be trained to provide Retrieval Services in conjunction with organ allocation/disbursal.

Wishing you all a very successful launch of Indian Society of Transplant Surgeons.
